We've done all sorts, actually, with the only
limitation being that the book be written by
a woman, since men's writing is reviewed and
discussed all the time.

Although the situation has gotten better
over the years that bookwoman has been
in operation, a glance in almost any book
review section in the newspaper still shows
a heavy bias toward male writers, although
women actually buy over 70% of all books,
and write quite a lot of them as well, many
in "genre" titles.

Small Island as actually nominated for
the round just previous, and garnered
quite a few votes, although it wasn't
selected.

The Bookwoman Book Discussion Group
is only a part of Bookwoman, and you
should feel free to comment, or seek
comments, on any book by women
at any time.

At times, we've allowed books by men
to be discussed on "Manday," which
is historically the 13th of the month,
or sometimes more often. We actually
don't have many rules except that
it's bad form to post unlabeled
"spoilers," especially on BDG Books,
until discussion has started. BDG
Books in active discussion don't have
any such protection, since people are
assumed to have read the book by
the time the sceduled discussion
starts.
